Product Bulletin: United Technology Ignition Control Failures

It has come to our attention that United Technology Ignition Model 1016-427 Ignition controls, used on our HM Series heaters, with date codes from 0626 through 0715 may have a defective spark capacitor which results in a weak spark, a spark of short duration (less than the 4 second trial for ignition) or no spark. This might appear intermittently with the control functioning properly at times. The typical failure mode is no gas ignition and lockout resulting in no heat.

Ignition controls with these date codes were used in production of our HM series units between July of 2006 and July 23, 2007. Production since July 23rd of 2007 has employed a different ignition control and are not affected.

Not all controls or capacitors are defective, however if you experience any of the above symptoms with controls bearing a date code in the range noted, please contact us immediately.

Unfortunately, all our current inventory of controls for replacement is within the suspected date code range, so United Technologies is in the process of providing us with controls for replacements and we expect to be able to ship properly functioning controls by December 5th .
